There are new developments involving a Department of Corrections officer now in federal custody.

DOC Director Fred Bordallo Jr. confirms that an internal affairs investigation has been launched. The officer, whose identity has not yet been released, is the subject of ongoing federal and local criminal investigations.

In a statement, Director Bordallo said he has committed DOC's intelligence unit and special response teams to work closely with federal agents.

For now, the department is deferring all public comment to federal authorities to protect the integrity of the case.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay, and is required to appear for internal review as the investigation unfolds.

Despite the incident, Bordallo said the department is moving forward with corrections week, a time to recognize the dedicated men and women who uphold public safety in Guam.
