The Guam Fire Department celebrates 40 years.

A ceremony was held at Adelup Thursday kicking off Fire Prevention Week.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero signed a proclamation, as a pass in review of GFD uniformed personnel was conducted.

Fire Chief Daren Burrier shared the progress of GFD over the past four decades.

“Over the years, the department has taken on remarkable growth and modernization. New fire stations were built, state of the art equipment has been acquired and comprehensive training programs have been implemented. Today, fire fighters are equipped with cutting edge technology and techniques enabling them to respond swiftly to emergencies. They hold national certifications that place them on par with any professional fire fighter in the nation,” said Burrier.

On Saturday, GFD will celebrate the graduation of the 23rd Fire Academy at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort in Tumon.
