According to the CDC more than 2,000 deaths were linked to COVID-19 last month.

That of course is a far cry from the monthly peak of more than 100,000 on Jan. 20 to Jan. 21. but it is a somber reminder five years after the World Health Organization first declared the global pandemic.

For Guam, five years ago we saw a lockdown and major changes being made to people's lives across the island.

Prior to any vaccine or any confirmed cases, this time five years ago, the island did experience a scare and medical experts immediately investigated potential positive cases for coronavirus.

This time five years ago, there was also so much uncertainty.

It wasn't until three days after that newscast that the Government of Guam confirmed the first positive COVID-19 case on the island.

Guam recorded its first COVID-related death seven days after that first confirmed case.
