The Department of Public Health and Social Services is proud to announce its selection to participate in the CDC Foundation’s Workforce Acceleration Initiative Cohort 2.

This initiative aims to strengthen the digital infrastructure of U.S. health departments by providing expert support in technology and data modernization.

DPHSS is among 49 State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Public Health Agencies chosen for this program. As part of WAI, three technology and data experts will work remotely with Guam DPHSS to advance its data modernization efforts.

The CDC Foundation emphasizes that upgrading public health infrastructure requires modern technology, increased funding, new policies, and skilled professionals at all levels. Many health departments still operate with outdated and disconnected systems, a challenge that became evident during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With expert support, DPHSS will enhance its ability to detect and respond to emerging health threats, make data-driven decisions, and improve health outcomes for the people of Guam.

“These experts will be a valuable asset to our department,” said DPHSS Director Theresa C. Arriola. “We look forward to their contributions as we work to modernize our technology infrastructure and better serve our community.”
