The man accused in the deadly stabbing of a local doctor will undergo an additional medical examination before having his day in court.

Defendant Akmal Khozhiev appeared before Superior Court Judge Maria Cenzon today to find out what’s happening with his case.

The court today granted Defense Attorney Annie Gayle's request to have an expert scan her client's brain.

Judge Cenzon previously approved two other experts in the case after the defendant pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to aggravated murder.

The results of the scan will be provided to the court who then determine what happens next with the case.
