Guam Power Authority celebrates Public Power Week by carrying out community-focused outreach that benefits local non-profit organizations.

The Public Power Week celebration so far has collected more than 2,800 food items for The Salvation Army to benefit island families in need and more than 600 toys for Alee Shelter Guam’s children.

GPA employees hosted the month-long canned food drive and toy drive from Sept. 18 to Oct. 18, 2024 to help The Salvation Army stock up their food pantries, and this year, GPA added a toy drive to make the coming holiday season brighter for Guam’s children.

Each year, during the first week of October, GPA joins public power utilities across the U.S. in celebrating Public Power Week and community-owned electric utilities.

“As part of our annual celebration as Guam’s public power agency, our team continues its tradition of serving the community through much-needed food and toy drives to benefit our island’s families and children in need. I applaud and commend the more than 400 employees of GPA for organizing this year’s Public Power Outreach and for their commitment to serve our local community,” said GPA General Manager John Benavente said.

“On behalf of the CCU and GPA’s Management team, we thank GPA employees, Guam Waterworks Authority (GWA) management & employees, our energy partners, and our customers for joining us in the 2024 community-focused outreach to benefit our community. We are proud of this year’s results, which were made possible by their incredible teamwork,” he added.
