Election nears: Guam Delegate candidates engage in Rotary Club Forum

The campaign trail is heating up with only ten days left until election day. The candidates for Guam Delegate fielding questions from the business community at the Rotary Club of Guam’s forum on Thursday.
Democratic candidate for Congress Ginger Cruz and her republican opponent James Moylan weighed in on a range of issues, including the long-debated question of whether the island’s political status should change.
“I would absolutely support the decision of the local government and be able to carry that with the full passion through the congress. But at the same time, I’m not going to remain stagnant–I’m not going to go well; it’s a local decision–it’ll happen when it happens, and let me just deal with what we’ve got—I want to actively take unincorporated territory status and see what we can do with that–let us create more opportunities so we can engage at a higher level with the federal government,” said Cruz.
“The duty of Congress is to ensure that we provide at least some funds or education policies to redetermine which they want to vote on,” said Moylan. “To bring it up in D.C. right now without the people’s voice–it’s not the right thing to do. In the meantime, let people’s voices be heard through the Department of Interior and how we have a good discussion with the Department of Interior through the National Resources Committee–which I’m a part of.”
The candidates also discussed H2 labor for non-military projects and social security funding.
