You know the saying, ”Be like a flower, survive the rain, but use it to grow.”

Well, after coming off from some wet and soggy weather, Guam is now in bloom.

The island’s native flora is on full display at T-Galleria by DFS in Tumon as the University of Guam, in partnership with DFS, launched its exhibit highlighting endemic plants through sustainable fashion and art today.

Abby Crane, Circular Economy Coordinator at the Guam Green Growth Makerspace and Innovation hub, is among the local artists who have her works featured in the exhibit.

She spoke with KUAM about her up-cycled creation, showcasing one of the island’s native orchids.

“This was crafted from fallen palm leaves to create this orchid replica. We have rice and malt bags provided by all the vendors from CHamoru Village–they saved their rice bags for me, and I was able to weave them into this textile and create this look,” said Crane.

It’s a display of beautiful art that DFS Senior Manager for Integrated Marketing Operations, James Santos said blends perfectly at DFS.

“It shows we can turn anything into fashion and art, and when you look at our exhibit here, you really get a front-eye view of this,” said Santos.

Guam in Bloom will be open from today to Oct. 1.
