As September approaches, the Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center is excited to share with you their calendar of events for Suicide Prevention Month, themed "Change the Narrative."

GBHWC’s call to action this year is to "Start the Conversation," encouraging open dialogues and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.

They have a whole month of events planned and the calendar can be viewed below.

2024 Suicide Prevention Month Calendar

September 6 - Proclamation Signing

Time: 11:30 a.m.
Location: Adelup
Will also be livestreamed to the Governor’s Facebook page

September 10 - Suicide Awareness Memorial

Time: 4 p.m.
Location: Kurason I Sengsong
In honor of World Suicide Prevention Day, we are collaborating with Kurason I Sengsong/Island Girl Power to host a memorial walk/ribbon placement to show our support for suicide prevention, remember those we lost, and for the survivors of suicide.

September 12 to 13 - ASIST Training

Time: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Dusit Beach
This is a free advanced suicide prevention training open to the community (must be 18 or older).
ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.

September 19 - I Pinangon Suicide Prevention Forum

Time: 6 p.m.
Location: UOG Lecture Hall
UOG’s I Pinangon Campus Suicide Prevention Program is hosting its annual Suicide Prevention Forum to educate the community on the topics of suicide and suicide prevention.

September 20 - safeTALK Training

Time: Session 1: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. | Session 2: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Dusit Beach
This is a free suicide prevention training open to the community (must be 15 or older). safeTALK is a four-hour training that equips people to be more alert to someone thinking about suicide and better able to connect them further with help.

September 25 - Rays of Hope: Mental Health & Grief Support Group

Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Julale Shopping Center, 2 nd Floor
This is a monthly support group held by TU’MA and GameTime Inc. For those who need help with understanding grief and pain, need a safe place to talk, or want to learn positive coping skills.
