The Guam Power Authority continues to make substantial progress in addressing the island's energy capacity shortfall.

Through collaborative efforts with partners such as Aggreko and Guam Ukudu Power, as well as the patience and support of residents and businesses, GPA is well on its way to ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply for the island.

The Aggreko generators have achieved full operational status and integration into the Island Wide Power System as of July 2024. This 20 MW power package, part of a 24-month temporary power agreement, features high-efficiency, ultra-low emission generators.

GPA has successfully added a total of 76 MW of energy capacity as part of its mid-term plans.

The rainy season has further helped lower peak demands, allowing for critical power plant maintenance without impacting necessary reserves.

Ongoing measures include upgrades to the Manenggon Power Plant and further maintenance on the recently repaired Yigo Combustion Turbine, which is expected to return to service in early August 2024 with increased output from 16 MW to 20 MW.

"With the successful implementation of our mid-term capacity solutions, we are confident that we are much closer to resolving Guam’s energy challenges. Our collaborative efforts and proactive measures are paving the way to reducing disruptions and ensuring that our community has access to stable power as we continue working towards long-term solutions," said GPA General Manager, John M. Benavente.

As a precautionary measure, the August/September 2024 Rotating Outage Schedule will remain consistent with the previous schedule and will be issued for potential outages only.

This schedule helps residents prepare for possible outages should energy demand exceed capacity. The rotating outage schedule is a last resort measure to ensure stability in power supply.
