No faith and no support from the prosecution.

That’s what an alleged sexual assault victim argued has forced her to step away from tesifying against her abuser.

De-Anna Taijeron wrote to senators calling for oversight to strengthen the Attorney General’s Office.

She spoke out after her experience in the case against Dr. Ugochukwu Akoma.

Taijeron told KUAM, “I have endured many emotional struggles while pursuing this perceived path of justice for several years now. I feel deeply hurt and let down by some of our island’s premier leaders who continue to not meet the needs or address the concerns of the their constituents including myself. The pain that has been inflicted on me from my experiences with this individual seems to be just another statistic and “case” for them and, as a result, other survivors and myself, continue to live with the absence of justice in our everyday lives and the permanent stain of discomfort because of the harm that was done unto us.”

“Survivors deserve to feel safe and protected. Hopefully some good will come of this, I will not be victim shamed for telling the truth,” she added.

“Eventually, this case is going to be dismissed,” said Defense Attorney Jay Arriola.

Dr. Akoma is facing sexual misconduct allegations set for retrial after the defense contends it was previously goaded into a mistrial based on the government's error.

“The AG's office has been grossly incompetent in the prosecution of this case the first time around…Their efforts at prosecuting my client and using this relatively simple misdemeanor case is really disgusting and people think - It’s the victim that needs her day in court and the doctor abusing this and that - It’s just not right,” Arriola added.

But, Attorney General Doug Moylan responded by writing to the Speaker of the Legislature stating he took the victim’s message very seriously and that his staff have worked very hard with Taijeron.

The AG said the court previously declaring mistrial created problems, adding they remain committed to helping victims.

Meantime, a new court date has not yet been set.
