The Northern Marianas College board of regents adopted a new policy focused on artificial intelligence.

Their goal is to use AI to enhance learning and innovation. The new AI policy is focused on enhanced learning experiences, ethical use, research and innovation, and workforce development.

Dr. Galvin deleon guerrero, president, Northern Marianas College, said, "Developing these policies and moving forward with the procedures and the action plan, there are really a few key areas that we were looking at. The first is to make sure that if it's going to be used, it's used as a tool to support what we're already doing. so supporting our strategic master plan, supporting academics, supporting workforce development, supporting research. But in doing so we have to make sure, like with anything academic, that there's integrity and accountability so that it's used responsibly and not used as a new form of plagiarism. But along with that, part of the responsibility is also ensuring data and security, because a lot of times, generative AI, takes your data and then the question becomes, who owns that data? Even if it becomes part of this broader data composite. So we had to make sure that we're putting those safeguards in as well. and the last thing which not a lot of institutions are paying attention to, but we are is really making sure that it's diverse, equitable, and inclusive, because a lot of the generative AI out there, it's been fed information that isn't exactly diverse, equitable or inclusive."

They hope to boldly integrate AI into the educational framework and administrative processes.
