Tonight, local residents react to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Mangilao resident Austin Castro just learned about the shooting today.

“It’s just kind of scary honestly because I wonder who would do that, who would be that crazy? I hope they find the person,” said Castro.

For Tamuning resident Kent Smith and Merizo resident Frank Delfin, it’s a reflection of a heated Presidential election.

“It’s sad but it’s kind of the reality of what’s going on right now, you know,” said Delfin.

“I thought it was uncalled for, but that’s kind of how things are in the United States right now. So it's a lot of turmoil,” said Smith.

And an emotional moment for his supporters, a couple wishing to remain anonymous.

“It’s all (expletive). Oh my god, if you see the satellite pictures, they should have cleared that roof. there’s no way they didn’t clear that roof,” said an anonymous support.

President Joe Biden addressed the nation today, saying, “The political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated. It's time to cool it down. We all have a responsibility to do that.”

The FBI is investigating the deceased gunman identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Agents said he was armed with a semi-automatic rifle registered to his father and that "explosive materials" have been identified inside his car and home.

The motive is still unknown.

Meanwhile, Homeland Security agents try to determine how it could have happened. How a roof-top, less than 150-yards from the rally was left open and accessible.

“Coverage of this building and the roof was built into the overall security plan and coverage fell through the cracks, which means nobody ensured that coverage was actually in place or it wasn't built into the overall plan at all,” said former Secret Service agent, Charles Marino.

And more information on the victim killed in the crossfire, a firefighter in the crowd.

Corey Comperatore was a husband and father of two young girls.

“Corey died a hero. Corey dove on his family to protect them last night,” said Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

Two others in the crowd were wounded and remain in the hospital tonight. Their conditions upgraded from critical to stable.

Meantime, the Leon Guerrero-Tenorio administration responded to the incident, saying, “There is no room for violence in politics–no matter where you stand on the issues.”

The Democratic Party of Guam added they “strongly condemn the assassination attempt.”

The Republican Party of Guam said they are hopeful that this incident will not deter him or other political candidates for public office.
