As Guam’s 80th Liberation Day festivities rolls in, community members can expect an exciting next couple of weeks.
The festivities are set to kick off with the Queen’s Coronation happening this Sunday, July 7 at the Hilton Guam Resort and Spa.
The Guam Mayors’ Council met Wednesday morning in preparation for Liberation Day hashing out parade details.
During the meeting, mayors discussed the parade line up determining where the royal court and village floats will be stationed.
Sinajana Mayor Robert Hoffman shared the plan for the order of more than 40 entries.
“The idea is the military, all the villages, the Government of Guam and then in that section of the parade ends or stops, and then that is the other marching groups, civic groups, businesses, and everything then that is the last,” said Hoffman.
The Queen and Royal Court will follow directly after the Government of Guam with Piti Mayor Jesse Alig stating that for villages, “We’re gonna do order of the Royal Court and then alphabetical order.”
Malesso and Sinajana are the only two villages that will not be having an entry this year.
Other than the iconic parade, the rest of the month will feature a variety of events.
The Guam Museum will be hosting a World War II virtual experience on July 17 until July 21.
A Liberation mass and a unified memorial will be held on July 19 with a static display memorial lighting up the Plaza de Espana every night beginning the same day and ending on Liberation Day.
You can also join in the fun at the Liberation Block Party happening at CHamoru Village on July 20 and 21 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The 80th Liberation Parade will be preceded by a 5k and mile race starting at six in the morning on July 21.
