Liguan Elementary School has passed the comprehensive sanitation inspection conducted from May 28 through June 14 by the Department of Public Health and Social Services with 16 demerits (B-grade equivalent).

While 16 demerits indicate areas requiring attention, it also reflects the commitment of LES to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

The GDOE, Guam Education Finance Foundation, and Liguan Elementary team are dedicated in addressing the noted areas of concern and will collaborate closely to ensure all standards set forth by DPHSS are met.

This initiative-taking approach demonstrates a continuous commitment to school safety and public health excellence.

“The successful passing of the LES sanitation inspection is a direct result of the unified efforts and unwavering commitment of all team members under the leadership of Principal Johansen Punongbayan. As attention now turns to addressing the specifics outlined in the report, the same level of dedication and collaboration will be essential,” Superintendent Dr. Erik Swanson said.

“The team's proven track record of success instills a robust confidence that future challenges will be met with equal fervor and excellence. The ongoing support and team spirit is not only acknowledged but is also fundamental to the continued advancement and accomplishments of the team,” he added.

Mrs. Johansen Punongbayan, LES Principal also commented on passing inspection, saying, “In preparation for the inspection, the Liguan community, along with Parents-Teachers Organization, Facilities and Maintenance- Dominic Orbe & Team, GEFF- Mike Alvarez, Global Food/Facilities Services - Elma Gascon & Team worked together collaboratively to ensure that we pass our DPHSS inspection. We want to thank all the dedicated individuals who worked to keep our community safe and thriving.”

“We have learned that seamless campus-community collaborations are critical to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment, health, and well-being. We will continue to work together to address our facility and ensure our school campus remains safe,” said Punongbayan.
