An undisclosed amount of candidates running for public office submitted signatures in their packets that appeared suspicious.

As KUAM reported, the Guam Election Commission announced the issue last month.

The candidates have since been certified and placed on the Aug. 3 primary ballot.

On Tuesday night, the GEC was scheduled to discuss the issue so that the investigation could make its way to the Attorney General's Office but three commissioners were not able to attend, forcing them to table it again for the next meeting.

Rikki Orsini, GEC Commissioner shared a few words, saying, “It's a serious investigation that deserves the attention of the whole commission. We do this when we elect Chair and Vice-Chair and I think considering this is a very serious matter, I would like both parties here and the Independent Commissioner to give full weight and discussion to this.”

“I agree this is a serious issue. If it's been going on not just in this upcoming election but in the previous i think we need to,” said GEC Chairman, Jerry Crisostomo.

Benny Pinaula, another GEC Commissioner noted that the election is coming fast.

“I mean it really doesn't have a timeline because all the candidates have been certified...the seriousness of the issue and the allegations needs to be at the forefront and we need to put this out. It's not a game we are playing here and if individuals are playing this kind of game election after election for what it is. I agree I think all the commissioners should be present to give their input before we decide to do anything or submit this to the Attorney General's office,” said Crisostomo.

The GEC plans to discuss it at next month's meeting and warned candidates that they are taking this matter seriously.

No word yet when the names of the candidates with suspicious signatures will be released to the public.
