The goal is to cut response time. The chief of police sharing plans for the koban in Talofofo. With the recent sergeant promotions, Guam Police Department Chief Stephen Ignacio says there is enough supervisors to cover the eastern side of the island and ultimately open the Talofofo koban. Ignacio says he has been working with the talofofo mayor with getting what he refers to as the "Eastern Precinct" stood up.

Located near the village church, the project continues to move forward. Ignacio highlights the need for the it, with the rash of thefts and burglaries in Hagat, and the recent incident where teens were slashing tires of cars in the Hagat and Santa Rita villages.

"Our officers were on the eastern side in the Inalahan-Talofofo area responding to a call. The mayor was frantically trying to call the police along with the residents," he shared.

Response for the officers to get to the scene in Hagat took some time given the distance from Inalahan. Ignacio believes the opening of the koban will go a long way, explaining, "Anything that we can do to provide some staffing, one of the things we're going to be looking at is when are the calls the highest - the peak times."

However, there are a few things that need to be squared away before doors open such as furniture and equipment. "We know opening up the Talofofo koban will go a long way in providing better response times in the eastern side, but also ensuring there is good coverage in Agat-Santa Rita," he said.

When asked if the other kobans located in other villages would be stood up, the chief said there were no plans at the moment to do so.
