Sabrina for Senator
Sabrina Salas Matanane

Sabrina Salas Matanane was born on April 23, 1971, in Guam, into a family with a strong tradition of service. Her father, Noberto Aguigui Salas, was a Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, and her mother, Lolita Palomo Abelon Salas, was a federal civil service worker. This background instilled in Sabrina values that guided her throughout her remarkable career.

As a military dependent, Sabrina's early years were marked by travels across various locations. She attended Agat Elementary School and Dededo Middle School in Guam before moving to Oklahoma, where she graduated with honors from Del City High School in 1989. Her pursuit of knowledge took her to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Electronic Journalism in 1994.

During her college years, Sabrina's potential began to shine as she anchored the university's weekly news program, "Network Norman," and interned at KOCO5 in Oklahoma City. After graduation, she worked as an Associate Producer for CBS affiliate KWTV9, where she notably covered the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing in April 1995.

In June 1996, Sabrina returned to Guam to join Guam Cable News in Hagatna. Her reporting covered significant events, including the arrival of Kurdish evacuees, the Korean Air Flight 801 crash, and Super Typhoon Paka. Her stories gained international attention, appearing on CNN. Sabrina also worked with Saipan Cable News, becoming a trusted news figure in Saipan.

January 1998 marked a significant milestone when Sabrina joined KUAM Pacific Telestations, Inc. She started as the Producer/Anchor/Reporter for the "Late Edition" newscast and later became the anchor of the "Primetime" newscast. Sabrina's career at KUAM spanned decades, where she held roles such as Assistant News Director, News Director, and Managing Director of News and Local Productions.

During her tenure at KUAM, Sabrina covered pivotal events, including hosting former U.S. President Bill Clinton in 1998 and reporting on Typhoon Pongsona in 2002. For nearly three decades, Sabrina dedicated herself to keeping Guam's residents informed. Under her leadership, KUAM transitioned from a traditional news station to a global digital media platform. She assisted in the launch of the KUAM Podcast Network and created "Crimes without Conviction," showcasing her commitment to innovation.

In March 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Sabrina spearheaded the creation of the multi-media morning show "Containing COVID," later rebranded as "The Link." This show provided crucial information during uncertain times.

Sabrina's leadership earned her numerous accolades, including the Micronesia Society of Professional Journalists "Journalist of the Year" award in 2002. Under her guidance, the KUAM News Team received nine Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in reporting.
Beyond journalism, Sabrina produced and hosted events for various charitable organizations. In 2022, she transitioned into politics, seeking election as Lt. Governor of Guam alongside Congressman Michael San Nicolas. After the primary election, she embraced a new role in the private sector as the Business Development, Marketing, and Public Relations Manager for a locally owned construction company, contributing to its success.

Sabrina's dedication to community service is evident in her roles as a board member for the Guam Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction and a member of the Guam Spirit Lions Club. Recently she hosted a podcast "Tohge Talks" which highlighted the non-profit organization and its efforts in aiding substance abuse recovery.

Sabrina Salas Matanane's life is a testament to resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to Guam and its people. She is now seeking election as a Republican candidate for Senator in the 38th Guam Legislature.
