The CNMI Office of the Attorney General said Public Water Systems in Saipan may be entitled to monetary relief under recent settlements in a large multi-district litigation.

The case is known as the Aqueous Film-Forming Foam Product Liability Litigation and is overseen by the U.S. District Court in South Carolina.

According to the CNMI AG, the settling defendants are 3M company (“3M”), E. I. Du Pont de Nemours, and company (n/k/a EIDP, Inc.), DuPont de Nemours Inc., The Chemours Company, the Chemours Company FC, LLC, and Corteva, inc.

“Based on records maintained by CNMI agencies, you may meet the definition of a Public Water System and may be eligible to submit a claim,” the CNMI OAG said in a press release.

“The amount of compensation each Public Water System may receive under the settlement depends on factors including the level of PFAS contamination in your system and its flow rate,” the CNMI OAG added.

The CNMI OAG said that initial claims are due July 12, 2024, and more information can be found at https://www.pfaswatersettlement.com.

“Separate and apart from these settlements, please note that the CNMI OAG remains committed to pursuing legal action against companies responsible for contamination from PFAS. The CNMI OAG’s lawsuit against these companies remains pending,” the AG’s office stated.
