GPA issues load shedding schedule for summer months

Residents are being asked to prepare their homes to save energy during Guam’s summer months, as more potential outages could occur.
The Guam Power Authority on Friday shifted from a monthly outage schedule to a two-month schedule covering June and July.
“This adjustment provides residents with more consistent access to minimize disruptions and is intended to ensure the community is adequately informed and prepared,” GPA officials said in a press release. “The recent increases in energy capacity reserves since September 2023 have substantially mitigated the need to implement load shedding, which has now become a periodic issue.”
The local power authority notes customers experienced a total of three load shedding occurrences for the month of May.
Officials said the latest schedule is an extension from the May schedule with no change in outage times.
Customers are also encouraged to conserve energy during peak hours by raising A/C temps to 75 degrees or higher and turning off water heaters between 5 pm to 11 pm.
