Friends and family of the Guam Community College graduating Class of 2024 filled the Calvo Field House with their excitement, love, and joy for their commencing loved one.

A total of 361 students were certified by the Guam Community College President and Vice President of Academic Affairs and its Board of Trustees.

This certification includes 53 Adult High School diplomas, 47 Apprenticeship certificates, 220 Associate of Science degrees, 56 Associate of Arts degrees, and 65 Certificates. A total of 292 graduates walked during the ceremony.

“I am proud to stand here today and present the GCC class of 2024…,” said Dr. Mary A. Y. Okada, GCC President. “When you leave here today, remember that life moves forward and every moment you have can be celebrated with the positive ones that surround you. Become the agent of change that you long to be.”

The ceremony included GCC’s first class to graduate with an Associate of Arts in Culinary Arts Baking and Pastry.

In the Summer of 2022, a grant was awarded to the GCC Culinary program from the U.S. Department of Interior giving first-year college students the opportunity to attend their first academic year at no cost in the inaugural GCC Baking and Pastry track in the Culinary program.

The grant covered the costs of their uniforms, books, lab fees, and more.

The inaugural 19 beneficiaries of the DOI grant received their Associate of Arts in Culinary Arts Baking and Pastry track. Sixteen of 19 graduates, or 84% of graduates, are currently employed in the industry and will receive the American Culinary Federation Certified Culinarian Certification upon graduating from the program.

“As they prepare to step into the professional realm, their graduation stands as a testament to their dedication and the program's commitment to nurturing culinary talent,” said Chef Kennyln C. Miranda, GCC Assistant Professor and Department Chair for Culinary Arts and Foodservice Management Program.
