Among all the men and women of the Guam Police Department, several officers and civilian personnel were recognized for their work ethic, dedication, and bravery.
Whether it’s responding to emergencies, apprehending dangerous criminals, or community involvement, they have demonstrated commitment in their service. It was a celebration of not only their accomplishments but also of the police officers who make sacrifices to keep our island safe.
Detective Joseph C. Gogo was selected as Police Officer of the Year.
As part of the Crimes Against Persons unit, he has taken the lead or taken part in investigating 37 homicide investigations since he has been at CID, with 35 of them successfully closed.
In 2023 alone, he played a vital role in the closure of seven homicide investigations.
“I believe everyone in this department deserves recognition for their vital role...It's teamwork that comes together to accomplish our goal for this department, which is to serve and protect the island of Guam,” said Gogo.
Sgt. II Maggie Naputi was named Supervisor of the Year. As head of GPD’s Juvenile Investigations section, her crew has investigated a total of 270 cases. 181 of those cases of were closed.
“I’m not the police officer I am today because of luck or chance, not by designation or election. I'm a product of many people I have been blessed with to have in my life. That have not only shaped me into a police officer I have become...but also a person,” said Naputi.
Also recognized during Thursday's GPD Awards Ceremony was Manager of the Year, Maj. Manny Chong, Civilian Volunteer Police Reserve of the Year, Dean Rivera, and Civilian of the Year Mailene C. Aguon.
They received the Unit Citation for Excellence in the Criminal Investigations section.
