Carabao Brewing reflects on past few years on island, new beer to launch

A new local beer will officially be rolled out at Carabao Brewing tomorrow.
Ahead of the official launch, KUAM checked in with husband and wife duo Anna and Ben Johnson over at Carabao Brewing in Hagatna
The Johnson’s have called Guam home for more than half a decade. The two ran into Guam native Brian Gogo in Alameda, California and got an invite to check out our slice of paradise.
“He told us what an amazing island Guam was and that we should visit one day,” said Anna Johnson.
They took him up on the offer.
“We happened to find ourselves on this side of the world, came on vacation and after two days decided this was it and this is where we wanted to be,” she said.
A perfect fit as the couple looked to open a micro-brewery.
Ben has been a brewer for more than 20 years and the business opened in 2019, just months before the pandemic hit.
But even that didn’t stop them from becoming a place for locals and visitors to enjoy and today, they are thriving, expanding, and supporting their new island home.
“Having a focus on the community was always something that we were really big about in the beginning. It’s something I think craft brewery’s really focus on. We like to be a part of the community. We are not your big macro brands. We are part of the neighborhood and we love to be that way,” Ben said.
A love that now leads to this Thursday’s roll out of a special IPA named Got Your Six Seven One.
The proceeds of the sale will benefit the group and for Ben and Anna, they’ve only just begun offering beers and delicious food on top of giving back to others who have love for Guam.
“It’s been really exciting for us to produce more beer and get it out in the market place and not only share it with people here but tourists coming and people traveling through the island,” he said.
Be sure to check them out in Hagatna!
