The Department of Youth Affairs is calling all high school students interested in enriching their summer with hands-on opportunities in the government or early childhood development.

The Governor’s Summer Youth Employment Program is back and set to run from June 17 through July 26, 2024.

Applications for the GSYEP will be available starting Monday, May 13, 2024, online at dya.guam.gov and at the DYA’s Director’s Office and Youth Resource Centers at the locations below:

Applications will only be accepted on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tiyan High School’s gymnasium. Interested applicants must be between the ages of 15 to 17, a resident of Guam, and capable of completing 30-hour workweeks for six weeks.

Additionally, applicants must submit the following documents with their application:

A copy of the applicant’s photo ID (i.e. Guam ID, Driver’s License, or Passport) and;
A copy of the applicant’s parent/legal guardian’s photo ID (i.e. Guam ID, Driver’s License, or Passport) and;
A copy of the applicant’s Social Security Card (or documentation confirming SSN) or Taxpayer Identification Number.

Summer jobs not only provide financial independence but also instill responsibility, teamwork, and time management skills crucial for their future success. For the last three years, GSYEP participants were assigned exclusively to the Government of Guam. This year, students can explore the childcare workforce in Guam’s private sector, specifically the daycare facilities.

The update to the program was made possible through funding provided by the Department of Public Health and Social Services’ (DPHSS) Child Care and Development Fund Program.

Additional documentation is required for employment at daycare facilities. Any fees associated with obtaining the additional documents will be waived. Applicants interested in working in child care must submit the following prior to the start of the program:

Police Clearance Authorization Form
Court Clearance Authorization Form
A completed DPHSS Health Certificate application
Bureau of Child Care Services (BCCS) Consent for Disclosure of Client Information form
