An early morning fire in Anigua sent large flames and smoke into the air for hours.
The flames came from an abandoned warehouse building in Anigua early Wednesday morning.
Residents nearby like Tony Lujan who lives about 75 feet away, was awoken by the sounds of sirens and the smell of smoke.
“The fire was really bad. We were like 75 feet away from the fire, I could still feel the intense heat,” said Lujan.
If you happened to be on the road in the Anigua area this morning on your way to work, chances are you noticed heavy smoke in the air.
Guam fire units responded to the fire on Santa Cruz Lane at 2 a.m.
Although GFD was able to control the fire at 4:30 a.m., overhaul of the building was causing heavy smoke in the neighborhood. Those within the area were asked to stay indoors or temporarily evacuate for a few hours until the smoke subsided.
West O'Brien Drive between Sixth Street and Seventh Street were also closed for a bit and the Dept. of Public Works also spent much of the morning removing debris from the building.
An investigation will be conducted on what started the fire.
