Amid tears of joy, school pride and the support of fellow faculty and the young lives she's shaping, Yoo Kyung Shin, a beginning chorus and concert choir teacher at Simon Sanchez High School, accepted her award as the 2025 Guam Department of Education Teacher of the Year.

And with a song on her lips and love for her students in her heart, she humbly thanked her fellow finalists and shared how her genuine pleasure of helping kids to find their voice hasn't wavered at all in 18 years in the classroom.
