Broadway hit "The Good Doctor" takes center stage at UOG Theatre

Have you seen “The Good Doctor”? The Broadway hit is taking center stage at the University of Guam Theatre tonight at 7pm. KUAM got a sneak peek of final dress rehearsals that left us holding back our laughter.
American playwright Neil Simon’s hit brings to life a mix of short stories by 19th Century Russian writer Anton Chekhov. Director Derek Smith tells us what the audience can expect. "Even though the play touches on more heavier topics like social class and anxiety, they’re written in such a way that are very enjoyable. So the characters are fun to watch. The actors bring a lot of energy,
he said.
That energy setting the stage for a memorable performance.
"Our lead actor is Dr. Troy McVey. He is a longtime part of the theater. Then we have two alumni who have come back, we have some current students and community members, and we have some very fresh faces who have not been on a UOG production before," Smith added.
From seasoned actors to new actors making their debut and to those working behind the scenes, Smith hopes their collective love of theater reaches the audience. "What I really wanted to do with this production was show the love of theater and the love of creating in general. So whether that be writing, set design or acting, I think you will see a lot of love on stage," he said.
Stage manager Alex Castro shares her excitement and invites the community to share in the laughter bound to keep the audience on their toes, telling KUAM News, "I’m excited for everyone to come and watch. It’s very funny. Even though I’ve seen the show over and over during our rehearsals, it still makes me laugh."
You can catch “The Good Doctor” on Saturday, April 20 and next weekend from April 25-27.
Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7pm.
