The Guam Department of Education congratulates the exceptional achievement of Luis P. Untalan Middle School, which secured first place in seven out of eight categories at the Guam History Day competition.

The event, which took place in March, revolved around the pivotal theme “Turning Point in Guam's History,” inspiring a deep dive into the island's rich heritage.

The Untalan Middle School team has demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in this year's academic competitions. Guided by the leadership of Vincent Leon Guerrero and the coaching team, the students have achieved remarkable success, dominating seven out of eight categories.

Their achievements are a testament to the hard work of both the students and their mentors. As they prepare to represent Guam at the national level, these four students carry not only their aspirations but also the pride of their school and community.

The national competition at the University of Maryland and Washington D.C. awaits them in June, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills on a larger stage.

The Guam History Day competition is a prestigious event that has been fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of history among students since 2007. It has grown significantly through the support of various academic and community organizations, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the island.

Participants engaged in research, developing advanced skills and presenting their findings in innovative ways.

The winners earned the honor of representing Guam at the National History Day Competition, where they not only showcase their hard work but also experience the rich cultural and political landscape of Washington D.C., further enriching their educational journey.
