The theme of the 15th Annual UOG Conference on Island Sustainability is “Sustainability Endures” and according to UOG Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant Director Austin Shelton, it called for continued dedication to the future of the entire world.

Over the next few days, the conference will delve into the critical issues surrounding island sustainability and explore solutions for a more resilient future.

Kyle Mandapat, Associate Director for Communications & Community Engagement for the UOG Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant spoke at the pre-conference event hosted by GPA.

“We're really excited to have great minds from all over the world, joining us for this portion of the pre-conference. and gpa has done an amazing job of organizing different presenters with different backgrounds all with one goal in mind and that's to get us here on guam, 100% renewable energy within a matter of years, decades,” said Mandapat.

For the second consecutive year, GPA leaders have chosen the Guam Clean Energy Transition Symposium, as the platform to report its renewable energy progress.

According to GPA, the island will achieve 50% renewable capacity by 2030.

GPA General Manager John Benavente is also optimistic about achieving this target even before that date

As for the what the rest of week entails, Mandapat said it will be a celebration of sustainability

He said, “We've got keynote speakers, Governor Arnold Palacios from the CNMI, President Whipps for his keynote address, we've got panels of people from all walks of life to really move towards a tangible solution.”
