The high court unsealed the Attorney General’s filings related to his office’s withdrawal of providing legal representation for certain Government of Guam agencies.

The AG has said his office is investigating 22 GovGuam agencies based on audits from the Public Auditor.

The Governor has asked the Supreme Court to weigh in on whether private counsel can be hired to review big-ticket contracts in lieu of the AG.

The AG contends the questions presented in the Governor’s petition attempting to invoke original jurisdiction by the Supreme Court are without jurisdiction.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero said she is pleased with the court’s decision to make the documents public.

“I really would like to get it resolved as soon as possible because there are very critical contracts and procurements that are being held up because of the AG abandoning his reasonability and his job as the Chief Legal Officer for the government and as a result of that we do not have contracts reviewed by the AG in a legal way. He’s had workarounds but we feel that it’s illegal,” said Leon Guerrero.

There’s no word when the Supreme Court might hear oral arguments.
