Deadline to submit nominations for Kompetensian Kometsiu is March 31

The deadline for Kompetensian Kometsiu: Inácha’igen Mes CHamoru is set for Sunday, March 31. 

The competition,  according to I Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru, is opportunity to celebrate cultural leaders in the private sector and encourage local business to take on the mantle of authentically and appropriately promoting the language, culture, and knowledge of the CHamoru people through

Special projects coordinator Dakota Camacho said, “We noticed the main place we see it nowadays is in the education system and even in people's homes but we need to grow the places where we appreciate and use the CHamoru language. So that there can be opportunities for people to see- hey me learning the language and using it in my daily life, is something that brings value to my life here in Guahan and maybe even abroad.” 

There will be three categories: Cultural Ambiance, Fino’ CHamoru, and events. 

Dr. Robert Underwood, is with the kumision and he said, “The whole point of this is to expand its regular usage beyond the classroom,beyond the home....and in churches....just to create that opportunity.”
