Guam Power Authority and the Consolidated Commission on Utilities are crossing their fingers that the Attorney General will finally sign off on a temporary, emergency power deal meant to help stave off load-shedding in the upcoming summer months.

A recently passed law lifted certain procurement regulations so the project isn't stalled by protests, but GPA also sought reassurance that the AG review process won't also cause a delay.

GPA legal counsel Marianne Woluschuk and general manager John Benavente gave an update.

“We are waiting for the AG's approval, like I had a meeting with Algrekko's lawyer today, we had some little changes, I will present them to the AG. we'll see what the AG says, hopefully they're small and unobjectionable and acceptable, so that the AG can approve it, and then the PUC will approve it,” said Woluschuk.

Benavente added, “PUC has already indicated their proposed document, the Alj has already indicated that he's in favor of it provided so and so are met and that's what we're trying to achieve.”

The Public Utilities Commission is set to meet Thursday evening.

GPA is rushing to get the temporary generators installed before demand surges beginning in May.
