The Guam Department of Education’s Head Start program is getting high marks from the feds.
Head Start program Acting Director Angelina Lape told Guam Education Board members during Monday's board meeting of the progress made since representatives from Region 9 visited the schools last December.
Lape said, “They were saying good job with active supervision and we should continue along the lines of these other areas that teachers have identified. One of the reviewers also made a comment about how impressed they were with our Head Start classrooms and the integration with the culture and language and what they saw when they went out there. We have some parents who came and spoke to them afterwards and they shared they really felt like we did a good job. So we will find out for sure when the report goes to the internal control process.”
She added the findings will be routed to the office of Head Start in Washington DC with a final decision to be given to GDOE within 45 days.
As reported, the education department was up against a March 5 deadline to correct standing deficiencies to gain compliance or risk losing federal funding.
