The Sumai murder trial is coming to a close.

Defense attorney Peter Santos said, “I don’t think Ed would want his friend to take the fall, wrongly take the fall. What happened to Ed was an injustice, saying that his friend killed him is a further injustice.”

Murder defendant Jamie Nededog, who stands accused in the killing of Edwin Pirando, listened and watched as attorneys presented closing arguments inside Superior Court Judge Alberto Tolentino’s courtroom today.

Prosecuting attorney Sean Brown told the jury the evidence is clear.

“You have the video of the defendant driving the truck home, the victim’s truck without the victim driving it behind Mt. Carmel School then slowly walking home at 7:30 in the morning. They’re the only two together that night and he didn’t come back with Edwin Pirando,” Brown said.

Brown added, no matter the timeline of the events that played out last October, he argued Pirando was murdered and Nededog is responsible.

But defense attorney Peter Santos said that the evidence shows otherwise.

Santos said, “He wasn’t trying to conceal or hide or destroy evidence. My god, if you wanted to hide it like I said he would go up to the water tower in Santa Rita and hide it there where nobody goes, except for maybe once a month…The cops knew that there was someone else, a third party involved but they dismissed it.”

After four days on trial, the jury was sent to deliberate, weighing out whether or not Nedegog took the life of his friend and neighbor.

As KUAM reported, Pirando’s body was found behind the Sumay Pub and Grill last October.

He was badly beaten and had been hit by a car.

It was said during trial that a possible motive for the killing is a robbery or a drug deal gone wrong.
