The Department of Corrections (DOC) is a step closer to getting a new prison.

Less than ten bidders responded to the request for proposal, according to Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Vince Arriola.

The new prison master plan will next head into the design phase. Details of interested bidders have not yet been made public.

Arriola said the bids will be reviewed before GovGuam makes a selection.

The RFP for the project was announced last August.

According to the proposal, this project was 18 years in the making and was executed to address the long standing overcrowding and building issues at the current DEPCOR facilities.

A start date for construction could be announced after the bids are evaluated.
