The island’s 80th Liberation Day festivities are in the works as village mayors propose a multi-day celebration.

The Mayor’s Council of Guam (MCOG) discussed holding the annual mass and evening memorial on the Friday, July 19, leading up to a block party on Saturday, and ending with a parade, fireworks, and drone show on Sunday.

MCOG President, Mayor Jesse Alig said, “The block party will be Saturday, and Sunday will be a parade, and we’ll end the block party with fireworks. That is the motion.”

The mayors also expressed wanting to continue last year’s tradition of village huts.

Meantime, this year's Liberation theme is yet to be decided.
