In an ironic twist of fate, there will be no special election to replace the late Sinajana Vice-Mayor Rudy Iriarte.

In his passing, the late Vice Mayor was able to accomplish his final act of self-less public service: to abolish the very office he held.

Iriarte had argued that the village had grown too small to have a Vice-Mayor.

Governor Leon Guerrero signed into law a bill by Senator Will Parkinson, writing that “It is rare that a leader would advocate for the abolishment of his office so that its funding could be dedicated to other critical priorities on our island. May Vice Mayor Iriarte’s selflessness and spirit of service live on in the people of Sinajana, whose lives are better for having known him.”
