The Office of the Attorney General has lost one of their own.

Deputy Attorney General Gary W.F. “Frank” Gumataotao died overnight Friday at the age of 69.

Attorney General Doug Moylan issued a statement, saying that Frank was more than a well respected professional but was simply a “good man,” and a “good friend” to many.

“True to his name, Frank was not one to mince words. He was opinionated and unapologetic, never afraid to speak truth and justice,” said Moylan.

He added, “However, his prowess in practice belied his good heart.”

Moylan added that Gumataotao is known his colleagues to be generous, always going above and beyond his duties and ready to lend a helping hand.

Born on Sept. 9, 1954 in Virginia, Frank’s father was the late Honorable Piti Mayor Vicente “Ben” D. Gumataotao, and his mother, Antonia R. Gumataotao.

The late deputy attorney general received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Marketing and Management from Old Dominion University and Juris Doctor Degree in Law from Washington & Lee University in Virginia.

Frank previously served as a deputy attorney general under the first
elected AG’s Office, and again under the 6th Elected Attorney General.

His private law practice included not only the general practice of
law, but provided services, largely in bankruptcy and probate cases.

Gumataotao leaves behind his wife, Atsuko Gumataotao, and his children, Joshua, Hannah and Aya.
