The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

A high surf advisory remains in effect for the islands in the Marianas until Monday, 6 a.m. along the west, north, and east facing reefs.

Large breaking waves in the surf zone can reach up to 10 to 14 feet. Inexperienced swimmers are advised to remain out of the water due to these conditions.

Additionally, a high risk of rip current also remains through late Sunday. Rip currents are known to sweep even the most experienced swimmers.

In the event an individual is caught in a rip current, the NWS recommends NOT swimming against the current and to swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore, and wave for help.

A small craft advisory is also in effect until Monday as conditions are not suitable for small crafts. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in hazardous conditions.

Last, a red flag warning remains in effect for Guam through the weekend for low humidity and high wind. Gusty winds and dry conditions could lead to rapid fire spread. Humidity as low as 50 percent in the afternoons, are expected. The highest threat is for southern parts of Guam, especially higher terrain and windward slopes, facing north or east, during daytime hours.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to remain out of the water while the advisories are in effect.
