'Help is on the way' that was the sentiment at Friday's commencement ceremony for the Department of Corrections' newest officers.

"This line of work is not for everyone. It takes a special breed to be in this profession...you are here triumphed and ready....what is expected for you," said Cadre Capt. Joey Pocaigue taking the stage proudly presenting the twenty-nine men and women to graduate as part of the agency's cycle. The new addition to DEPCOR's fleet couldn't come at a better time.

According to public safety oversight chair Sen. Chris Barnett, Friday's graduation is a positive step forward.

"As you guys know, you did a great special on the conditions of the Department of Corrections, so this cycle's graduation and getting these CO's onto the compound couldn't happen soon enough. I'm just grateful that the legislature was able to fund an extra cycle for corrections officers last budget so we're doing our part....again, help is on the way for staff, inmates, and detainees."

Over the past twelve weeks, recruits went through rigorous training and certification that challenged each and every one of them physically, mentally, and emotionally. Standing before family, friends, and leaders, recruits now officially officers, are ready to serve the island community.

Class commander Nathaniel Charfauros said, "Thank you for giving us this great opportunity to serve the community and to serve the people of Guam...thank you for taking the time...you have  given us more than we deserve...thank you for your continued support....the sacrifices we do are for you."
