The search for a killer and his accomplice is now in its 5th day. The Guam Police Department (GPD) are desperate for clues that can help them find two men in a dark colored SUV.

The suspects involved in what was supposed to be a celebration of 40 years of hard work for the victim. That's until the celebration turned into a tragedy last Thursday along Gun Beach road in Tumon.

GPD Spokesperson Berlyn Savella said, “These are tourists who had come to our island to enjoy our island. My understanding was that he had retired. And this was their choice of destination, our island was identified, is identified as a safe destination for tourists.”

The victim and his wife were on vacation from Korea. They were walking in Tumon around 7:40 p.m. on Jan. 4 when the suspects pulled up from behind.

Police said the passenger jumped out attempting to snatch the woman's bag when they got into a struggle. That's when the suspect opened fire shooting the victim. The pair took off in the SUV.

Authorities are still unable to get a better description of the suspects or their getaway car.

The victim, who is not being identified, died at Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) from his injuries.

Savella said investigators have been working through the weekend. “Officers with the Guam Police Department are actively engaging comprehensive search and canvass effort as part of the ongoing criminal investigation,” She said.

Savella added, “The primary objective at this time is again to canvas the area and beyond. And when we speak about canvassing the area, this involves the meticulous process of interviews, research and information gathering within the area, that's including businesses, any witnesses any of those other agencies who tour the Tumon area, we would also extend that search or canvassing interviews towards them.”

Detectives are approaching all options possible to bring justice for the visitor and his family.

Authorities are checking surveillance cameras around the area in hopes of capturing a clear description of the suspects.

Police are also asking for the community's assistance.

Spokesperson Savella said,

“The community's cooperation is invaluable at this time. And we appreciate all the assistance and understanding that is given to us as we come collectively as a community…I know it’s somewhat a needle in the haystack, two men in a dark colored SUV, it’s a dime a dozen, but again, they may have been in the area, they may have heard something, they may have seen something, maybe at the time while they were in the Tumon area, this vehicle, this dark colored vehicle was in excessive speed that it brought note to them and say wow, this person was in a hurry, even information such as that, what seems to be so little may not be so necessary little.”

Authorities are also waiting for an autopsy to be performed on the victim.

Savella added GPD wants to solve the case soon to help the island once again feel safe. She said, “We also understand the impact it has had in our island on our island in our community and to reiterate the Chief remains steadfast to include our officers in the commitment to ensure safety into our island and the well being of our community.”

Working with the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB), a $50,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
