The most wonderful and busiest time of the year for the United States Postal Service (USPS) is almost here.

Guam postmaster Tammy Schoenen shared what our island’s post offices are doing to prepare for the peak holiday season.

“So far, we’ve ramped up our staffing. We added an additional 15 percent to the crew that we had prior to the holidays. We’re also expanding our pick up hours to give service to our customers outside of our regular service hours so it will be more convenient for them,” She shared.

Now, there are more helping hands to make sure your precious packages reach their destination on time.

She says customer traffic is expected to pick up at post offices as soon as tomorrow with the busiest week two weeks before Christmas.

It's why they're ramping up package pick-up operations with extended hours at all locations and the addition of Sunday pick up hours at the Barrigada post office.

Plus some tips for customers, “Whether you need to mail letters, cards or packages… Don’t get boxed in the corner fighting the holiday shipping rush. ship your items as early as possible.”

Schoenen said, “We’re going to post the suggested mailing dates out in our window lobby areas. I can give that to you also so that you can notify the public. We just want to make sure that everyone puts on their customs forms and if they have the opportunity to go to usps.com to prepare their shipping there so when they come here, they can just drop it to the post office and walk away. We’ll take it from there.”

The postal service also went the extra mile with an early present, no holiday surcharge this year.
