The man facing charges in connection to the death of a one-year-old baby boy denied the allegations filed against him in the Superior Court of Guam.

Standing before Judge Vernon Perez, Paul John Cruz pleaded not guilty to child abuse and failure to provide.

Defense told the court they will move to sever the case from co-defendant Giltinan Ramangmou, meaning they could be tried separately.

Ramangmou has since pleaded not guilty to murder, aggravated assault, and child abuse.

As we’ve reported, investigators learned Ramangmou allegedly punched the child. The baby was later found dead inside their Dededo residence.

tThe trial has been scheduled for Dec. 20.
