The chaotic scene following a serious crash this Thursday raises concerns during a CHamoru Land Trust Commission meeting overnight.

Jeffrey Rios of the Guam International Raceway expressed to commissioners his concerns that motor-sports enthusiasts may very well be taking to the streets with the Yigo Raceway shut down.

“It’s been 167 days since the track has been closed. And just on my phone as I'm sitting here, [I saw] there’s been another accident in Mangilao. I'm not saying it’s because of drag racing or anything like that. But you all know it’s happening,” Rios expressed.

Excessive speed has caused an alarming amount of deadly crashes in recent months. It's a concerning pattern for Guam police.

Rios emphasized a need for a legal and safe track to race on.

He’s asked for a 4 month long memorandum of understanding to allow the federation to at least clean up the shut down raceway.

He said to commissioners, “Have you gone by there? It's terrible. It’s in disarray. It needs work. And right now these guys are hungry to get in there and clean it up. In 4 months, it will look like it did on June 1st, the day before we got evicted.”

It’s been nearly 6 months since the island’s only raceway park has been ordered to cease and desist.
