CNMI honors Veterans and their families

James Kennedy Benjamin with the Family Programs Office, 9th Mission Support Command, U.S. Army Reserve, said, "For generations, the men and women of the Marianas have boldly answered the call to serve with great pride and distinction in our nation's armed forces. These soldiers, sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen have endured many sacrifices to defend the freedoms that make our islands and nation what they are today."
The proclamation was read aloud and signed by the administration this week honoring NMI Veterans and Military Families.
CNMI Gov. Arnold Palacios said, "We urge all members of our community to recognize and pay tribute to the service sacrifices and the invaluable contributions made by veterans and military families—their ongoing dedication in supporting our islands and our great nation merits our profound appreciation."
The CNMI is home to more than one thousand service members and veterans.
John Hirsh with the CNMI American Red Cross told KUAM, "People's military service means a tremendous amount to me, and so I'm really proud of the service of my in-law and my own father. But also, you know, all those that have served our country and really protected us and, you know, have been willing to give up the ultimate sacrifice of their life in times."
Benjamin added, "It's a day to honor veterans, remember the men and women who have served in our armed forces and, you know, just to remember them, to thank them for their service, their sacrifice, and at the same time, to remember also those behind them while serving their families, their caregivers, because they, too, have sacrificed."
The Veterans Day ceremony was held on November 11 at 11 a.m. at the American Memorial Park Court of Honor on Saipan.
