Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) Administrator and CEO Lillian Posadas voiced her reservations about the viability of a proposed interim hospital facility as a full replacement for the existing hospital.
In an interview with reporters, Posadas highlighted several concerns regarding the potential facility, citing its limited space and inadequate resources.
Posadas emphasized the significant disparity in size between the proposed interim facility, measuring 55,000 to 51,000 square feet, and the current GMH, which spans approximately 350,000 to 351,000 square feet.
She expressed doubt about the interim facility's ability to accommodate essential medical services, such as an emergency room, intensive care unit (ICU), laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology department.
These vital components, integral to GMH's operations, may not fit within the confines of the smaller facility.
Furthermore, Posadas raised apprehensions about managing two hospitals located in close proximity.
Dividing services between GMH and the interim facility could complicate operations, particularly considering the intricate interfaces between various healthcare services.
Additionally, Posadas questioned whether maternal child care services would be adequately established in the proposed facility.
Posadas also expressed skepticism about the interim facility's ability to meet the healthcare needs of residents in the southern region of Guam.
Concerns about accessibility and the scope of services offered further contributed to her reservations regarding the proposed solution.
