A confirmation hearing was held today for Fred Bordallo to be the next director of the Department of Corrections. Bordallo is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a former chief of the Guam Police Department. Most recently he served as director of the Office of Veterans Affairs.

He shared some of his goals, saying, "The Department of Corrections will have a sufficient number of corrections officers with support and external community resources that greatly improves and enhances the safety and security of all Department of Corrections employees and FAPP, facilities and prisoner population. A third goal, the inmates incarcerated at the Department of Corrections will be secured and safe from threats and harm, confined in facilities that have suitable conditions and space, a healthy environment and provided the opportunities for programs that involve rehabilitation activities."

If confirmed, Bordallo will take over as the permanent head of DOC, since the passing of director Robert Camacho in March.
