Health alert issued for certain Spam Classic cans

Heads up for an island staple -- the Department of Public Health and Social Services and Social Services has put an alert out on certain Spam Classic cans.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Hormel Foods Corp. Services reported last month some cans were shipped without being adequately processed for commercial sterilization. But those products were only shipped to retail locations in Texas.
Out of an abundance of caution, Public Health wants you to double-check the Spam Classic cans you might have, warning you to not eat the product with the following labels:
- An Establishment number “EST. 199” inside the USDA mark of inspection;
- A “BEST BY AUG 2026” date; and
- A lot code A08173 located on the bottom of the can.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of this product, however, anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact their healthcare provider.
