Another purse was snatched in the central part of the island earlier this morning, this time in front of the Camacho Landmark Building in Tamuning.

Mayor Louise Rivera was just doing her rounds with the Army Corp. of Engineers when she caught wind of the incident. She noticed a crowd in front of the building.

"I was wondering what was going on over there and then I saw the big firetruck and emergency personnel and when I got your message, right after your message, came another message from our neighborhood crime watch and talking about a purse snatching," she told KUAM News. "Right away I reached out to the property owners to see what was going on there and so forth and I reached out to the police department."

Through the Neighborhood Crimewatch chat and Guam Police Department, she learned that it was a good samaritan who tried to stop the incident and helped identify the car.

Although she wasn't able to identify the person who helped stop the robbery, she gives credit to their efforts

"We must say kudos to innocent bystanders that came out and helped out in gathering the information and on all that, the identity, you know the make and model, details of the car, it was a getaway car," the mayor said.

Both Rivera and Tamuning Vice Mayor Albert Toves urge the public to continue to voice out anything that seems suspicious as we all have a collective responsibility in keeping our community safe.

"The only thing is to get the word out to the people. everybody’s got to do their part on stopping whatever is happening that’s illegal," he said. "It doesn’t matter whether it’s purse snatching or houses or whatever, we got to be vigilant on going out there stopping all this stuff as much as possible. and by stopping, I don’t mean by going physically stopping it, I mean let it be known to the authorities."

Mayor Rivera confirms a suspect was taken into custody thanks to the information provided.

There were other purse snatchings over the weekend, including one at the Garden Villa in Tumon on Saturday evening.

Twenty-two-year-old Anthony Leo Wabol who was on probation and had a bench warrant for another case, was charged with attempted second-degree robbery with special allegation of vulnerable victim.

According to court documents, a woman told Guam Police Officers she was with her friends when a man, later identified as Wabol, was wearing a face mask, allegedly approached her and tried to grab her purse while pointing a black handgun at

A security guard saw the suspect try to take the victim's bag and then take off. The guard then chased after him. and saw Wabol flee after getting into the front passenger side of a red Mazda CX-3.

On Monday, officers located Wabol and allegedly saw a black pistol, later identified as a BB gun on the front passenger seat.

Through a picture, the victim identified him as the one who tried to take her purse, court documents state.

On Sunday morning an elderly woman was transported to the Guam Regional Medical City after she endured injuries during a strong-arm robbery Sunday morning.

Police said the woman was walking along the sidewalk by Pinoy Express on Kayen Chando in Dededo when a man grabbed her bag and fled towards a vehicle, heading to the Pay-Less Supermarket and Paradise Fitness Center area.

Police told KUAM the incidents may be related but the investigation is still ongoing.
