Local 2030 islands network gets additional funding

Expanding the capacity to build on sustainable development throughout Micronesia and the Pacific. The University of Guam Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant, along with Guam Green Growth, announcing additional funding for the local 2030 Islands Network and G3 intiatives.
Dr. Austin Shelton, UOG CIS and UOG Sea Grant director, told KUAM News, “We now have a new grant, additional funding coming into the island on top of all of the base funding that we get from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which has leveled up from $200,000 per year to now $1.2 million in federal funds each year. We're getting an additional $709,000 to the University of Guam, $709,000 to the University of Hawaii, so, this combined, nearly over $1.4 million.”
Again, with these funds, neighboring island partners will have the opportunity to hire their own green growth coordinators--including the northern marianas college, the republic of palau, and the federated states of micronesia, to name a few.
The exciting news is happening as over 34 directors and senior staff from across the country are on the island for the National Sea Grant Association's fall meeting.
